Communication Networks / Wireless Networks / Communication Quality / Network Diagnosis / Network Monitoring

Information and communication networks such as the Internet and mobile communication technologies have developed significantly and are not only widespread in social life, but also indispensable technologies in various application fields such as environmental and biological information collection by sensors, and information collection from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). An information network is a technology that integrates various elements from software to hardware. Therefore, there are various types of techniques for evaluating the quality of the information network including Quality of Experience (QoE) to represent subjective user satisfaction level of the service and Quality of Services (QoS) to represent objective network qualities, We are studying quality assessment and measurement technologies for such diverse and complex information networks. In large-scale or complex information networks, it is often impossible to directly measure quality evaluation indicators. Therefore, we are studying technologies to estimate the quality with high accuracy by using the latest theories such as machine learning and signal processing.

These quality estimation techniques can be developed not only to evaluate information networks but also to provide more comfortable information network services. For example, the quality of a mobile network depends on where and how many users are using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Therefore, the estimated qualities can be returned to users as information for receiving more comfortable services. Furthermore, estimation of wireless channel characteristics using UAVs can be used as information to avoid interference between UAVs in future UAV networks. We also collaborate with researchers in other universities, companies and research institutes on these research projects.
