Human-Computer Interaction / Intelligent Robot / Multi-model Interaction

Shimokawara is researching intelligent robot utilizing not only image and voice data, but environmental information such as time and location data as well.

In our daily lives, the opportunity to interact with a conversational robot such as AI speaker or reception robot is increasing. Shimokawa’s research focuses on artificially intelligent system and robot which grows gradually while interacting with human partner. To provide the robot service considering individual’s feeling, it is essential for multimodal system to comprehend not just human utterance but the changes of facial expression and behavior as well. As it is said that “the eye is the window of the mind”, not just from utterance, it is possible to guess interlocutor’s intention from eye movement.

If robot is able to recognize people from several perspective like human, it is achievable to enhance the relationship between robot and human partner.

To achieve the goal, her works combined artificial intelligence, utterance data and information obtained from sensor to recognize user’s internal status. Furthermore, she also researches on communication system integrating location information, hear rate data and other individual information obtained from multiple sensor. Her research aims at developing an intelligent robot which can be as a living partner providing suitable service according to human condition and giving proper assistance.
